Stargate Atlantis: Broken Ties (#503)
PREMIERES: FRIDAY, JULY 25 AT 10PM ET/PT
Ronon is ambushed during an off-world mission and awakens, much later, a prisoner of his former friend, Tyre. The fellow Satedan, it turns out, has fallen on hard times since they last crossed paths. Abandoned by the wraith he once served, he is undergoing a physiological and psychological withdrawal from the reverse-feeding process once granted to him as a wraith worshiper. But he believes he has come up with a way to win back the respect of his former masters: by delivering them Ronon.
Intent on turning their defiant captive, the wraith begin their process of reverse-feeding - stealing Ronon’s life, bringing him to the brink of death, then restoring his youth. Again and again, and again.
A tip, meanwhile, leads the team to an abandoned village. But Ronon and the wraith are long gone, and the only remnant of their former presence is a seriously injured Tyre who may be their only hope of rescuing their friend.
You’ll find more spoilery pics behind the cut.

I’ve gone on record as saying I would love it if Sci Fi shut down its B-movie factory and used that money to salvage popular genre shows like Moonlight or Jericho. As my colleague Cynthia previously reported, the network has announced 36 movies for its Saturday and Sunday slots, including Lake Placid 3.
Oh, they had to do it because their highest rated movie last year was Lake Placid 2. I am not even kidding. What kind of a nightmare world do we live in where Lake Freakin’ Placid has become a trilogy? Seriously, that’s like the straight-to-DVD sequels you see at Blockbuster and just laugh because you didn’t know they existed. Ooh look! From Dusk Til Dawn 12!
Quality over quantity, Sci Fi Channel. How cool would it be if instead of 36 movies we’ll watch if nothing is on HBO at the same time*, the channel did 6-10 really good movies. Say, that much talked about Angel movie? A Dresden Files flick? I’m just spitballin’ here, throwing out some ideas. You know how to reach me, Sci Fi.
*That doesn’t apply to good stuff like Tin Man. And I think we all know the difference between Tin Man and Lake Placid 3.

The recent events surrounding Dark Knight star Christian Bale are tinged with quite a bit of irony. After all, many folks in Gotham want the police to bring Batman in for his vigilante acts. Then, the actor gets arrested in a family dispute. Between Bale’s arrest and Heath Ledger’s death, the word curse is going to start being thrown around in connection with this movie.
I’m not about to pass judgment here, I’ve got a few family members I’m surprised I haven’t hit yet. I’m not thinking this will do anything to the movie’s second weekend take. I am a little worried about Warner Bros. overreacting because as we know, they’ll recast Batman at the drop of a cowl. At the rate the franchise was deteriorating I think Vin Diesel was in line to play Batman.

“I showed some scenes to David Lynch and he’s all, “whuh?” Bad sign.”
That’s Joss Whedon in his post over at Whedonesque explaining why he felt the need to reshoot the “Dollhouse” pilot. Though he tries to downplay the network’s involvement in the decision, it’s clear that he didn’t wake up yesterday and decide to do it over again all on his own.
He talks about needing a change in tone from the “dark noir” place that he loves to something. . . well. . .something brighter and bouncier maybe? It’s hard to say.
In general, Whedon makes it sound like this is business as usual only on a much shorter schedule due to the writer’s strike, and I believe that is probably true. Many shows are recast and retooled and still go on to be successful series. Look at “Moonlight.”
Okay, maybe that’s a bad example.
The bottom line is that “Dollhouse” won’t be premiering at Comic Con as originally planned, but it does mean Joss and Eliza will have a whole lot more to talk about when it’s time for their panel on Saturday afternoon.

The following is a post from sci fi writer, J. Steven York’s Multiplex of the Mind blog, reprinted here with the author’s permission.
Don’t you hate it when one of your childhood heroes says something so profoundly wrong and stupid that you just have to call them on it? Unfortunately, it just happened to me.
The hero in question is Apollo 11 moon-walker Buzz Aldrin. Ironically, I ran across this story on the US Sci-Fi Channel’s “Sci-Fi Wire” news site. If any of the space sites or major news sources picked it up, I didn’t see it. Aldrin was shilling his new National Geographic Channel show, “Unseen Moon,” at the annual TV Critics Press Tour.
Anyway, Aldrin went on about how “unrealistic” science fiction television shows caused the public to lose interest in the space program. He doesn’t name names, but he keeps mentioning “beaming,” which seems like a reference to Star Trek. But he also is quoted as saying something about the shows being on “today,” which kinda points a finger towards Stargate Atlantis, the only other current show I can think of that “beams” people. As most anticipated, Spider-Man 3’s record opening weekend fell at the hands of The Dark Knight. The long awaited Batman sequel took in an estimated $155 million over the weekend. It also had the biggest opening day ever with $66.4 million and the most money from midnight showings, $18.5 million.
Bat-mania reached an all-time high due to the untimely passing of Heath Ledger and his critically-acclaimed performance as The Joker. His dark, twisted villain is drawing some of the best reviews of any bad guy in cinema history.
With this being the last big film of the summer, it’s expected to have a good long run at or near the top. It’s of course the type of movie that lends itself to repeat viewings, so these numbers are only going to grow.

Not contented to rest on their laurels (which sound pretty uncomfortable if you ask me), SCI FI Channel has several new projects in the works and like many other TV networks, a good number of them are reality based. Check them out:
SCRIPTED
BRYAN SINGER MINISERIES PROJECT
SCI FI re-teams with Bryan Singer and his Bad Hat Harry Productions banner to develop an all-new, action adventure miniseries based on an original idea of Singer’s. The project will be written by Richard C. Matheson (Masters of Horror, Nightmares and Dreamscapes).
WHAT IF? (1-Hour Pilot)
In the pilot episode of What If?, a near collision with a comet triggers the on-set of Earth’s second ice age. The life-changing global event unfolds in a hybrid of mixed media. ‘Eyewitnesses’ use cell phones, digital video cameras, PDA’s and other communication devices to capture and share the cataclysmic event going on around them. In doc-like style, the program will attempt to be as scientifically accurate as possible on how such an Earth shattering natural disaster would actually play out around us while telling a dramatic narrative of how it will effect people’s lives.
ALTERNATIVE
SOUL EVIDENCE (working title)
Real life inspiration for NBC’s Medium Allison Dubois leads a team of psychics, scientists and investigators to solve cold case murders.

“Well, everybody knows I love vampires…werewolves, warlocks, I love ‘em all…but the response to ‘Moonlight’ was actually more actor-centric, so I think it certainly measures our decision on the show. Right now, I don’t question the decision we made.”
That’s CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler’s response when she was asked about “Moonlight’s”cancellation at the TCAs.
The first part scares me. The second part perplexes me and the third part is a given. She did follow up by saying that they would love to keep Alex O’Loughlin on CBS. Yeah, well, she thought have thought of that before she threw the kill switch.
